The first month or so of school can sometimes be filled with excitement, anxiety, wonder and sometimes uncertainty. But, we muddled through all those emotions and have settled into routines and structures that make us feel like we have never left.
Our school wide inquiry this year is “Ways of Knowing”. When we think about how that might fit into our learning in Physical Education classes, there are so many avenues one can take to explore the ideas brought out by this statement.
Do I know the expectations?
How do I know that I am communicating well?
How do I communicate effectively with my team?
How do I know my team is working well together?
Do I know what it means to be in control of my actions?
Do I know how to move in the way that is required to perform a given task?
If I don’t know, what do I need to do to find out the answers?
Throughout the year, we will focus on some of these questions to help students better understand their personal role and responsibilities in their learning. This will assist them to further develop their overall knowledge of physical activity (Skill), how to work with various groups of people (Communication), and the importance of being a life long active person (Active Way of Life).
If you click on the Assessment Tab on the top of the page, you will find the assessment rubric that is used with students to provide deeper understanding of their competency in PE. This will help guide them to recognize their personal strengths and also areas that may need some focus.
