The basis of any successful team or partnership is the ability for that group of people to be able to work well with each other, problem solve through brainstorming and effective communication, negotiate conflict, and understand and use each person’s talents/strengths. Ultimately, if the group is unable to get along then success is limited. This can also be related to sport. A team that functions well together will be more successful than one that argues. A player who thinks he/she is the star player and refuses to allow his/her team to help is destined to fail.
Over the course of October, students engaged in activities specifically focused on communication and cooperation within team and partnered tasks. They were randomly placed into groups in some instances; and at other times, they were able to choose their own groups. Games such as, Pass With Your Feet, Snakes, and Memory Game were activities that required teams to problem solve and talk to each other to be successful. Our month long exploration of this General Outcome from the Physical Education Program of Studies culminated with Teamwork Centres. Ask your child what specific strategies were used in their group that allowed them to be an effective team.
Upcoming for November and December: Olympic exploration (November and December) and Mission Impossible (week of Nov 19-24th)
